The Uttara Gana Bhavan is situated in Dighapatiya of Natore. It is also known as Dighapatiya Rajbari. It is located about 3 kilometers away from the city of Natore. This palace was built in 1734. After a devastating earthquake of 1897, due to its widespread loss, a palace was rebuilt in this place. Currently it is the newly built palace. The last king of this palace was Pratibanatha. After partitioning the country in 1947, Raja, along with his family, moved to Calcutta, India in 1950. The palace was acquired by the East Pakistan Government in 1951 and in 1966 it was declared as the Governor House or East Pakistan House. After the independence of Bangladesh, in 1972, the architect of Bangladesh State Sheikh Mujibur Rahman converted it into Gana Bhaban and named Uttara Ganobhaban. The Rajbari Gate, the main palace, Kumar Palace, is giving a connotation to the tradition and royalty symbol of these kings, even today. In the palace area, one-storey building has 34 rooms. The flower garden is being built in front of the palace. There are water fountains, and some women statues made of marble stones. The cabinet meeting was held in this building only outside the capital Dhaka.
